Juan Rodriguez* was studying business administration at Universidad de Chile while working full time at a local supermarket for the Chilean minimal wage – approximately $200 per month.
At age 28 he still had eight courses to complete before graduation, but after contributing to household expenses, he was left with enough money for only one course per semester.
Juan could not obtain a loan because he didn’t have a collateral and couldn’t find other financing alternatives in the Chilean education system.
Juan received financing from Lumni and committed to paying 3.5% of his future income during his first 60 months of work after graduation. He completed his eight remaining courses and received his diploma within a
year. Lumni coached Juan through his job search, helping him polish his resume, practice interviewing, and connect to potential employers.
He eventually received an offer from one of the companies to which Lumni had introduced him. Two years after graduation, he has been promoted twice and is now earning $3,000 per month.
